Titanic
I do not like the film Titanic. I don’t. I think it’s poorly written, too long, has too many inconsistencies and flaws. The acting is as good as acting can be with a terrible script; which is to say that the actors in this film are INCREDIBLE, but they are working with some pretty weak words and therefore aren’t able to give the kindof performances that could have been award winning performances.
This aversion to the film may stem from being denied the chance to see it when it was originally relieased. Maybe I just resent it. Maybe if I had seen it in 5th grade I would appreciate the lovestory and the romance and the blah-di-blah-di-blah.... I didn't see the film until I was a college student, and I only watched it because my dear friend Mikell told me I had no choice. I was not impressed. I felt jipped, because all those years I had been told that this film was amazing, incredible. "HOW HAVE YOU NEVER SEEN TITANIC?!" people would exclaim. And after watching it... I was confused as to what all the fuss was about.
Despite my dislike of the film, it did make me cry, and always will. But not because of Rose and Jack. Its not their story that brings me to tears. It is the musicians on the deck who play until the sea swallows them up. It is the men of the ensemble hugging their wives and children as they get into the lifeboats. It is Victor Garber standing in the dining room and going down with his ship. These are directorial moments, moments that were orchestrated in such a beautiful way that I don’t think anyone can help but cry.
So, yes. I will be going to see this in 3D in theatres. 1- because it does make me cry. 2- because the actors are some of my favorites, despite this silly film. 3- because i didn’t get to see it in theatres the first time around. 4- because my sister wants to go and my mom said i could take her.
So there. Unsolicited opinion and review of a twelve year old film that the majority of the female population in my generation adores. Enjoy. :P
